Beautiful and exciting,
is the second choice you have to raft the
Apurimac Canyon, in this section we have a
lot of accion a lot of rapids , we decend
the river quietly, so we have time to enjoy
the beautiful canyon.
Briefing (night before departure):
pre-departure information; description of river
canyon, navigation, what to bring, etc.
Itinerary:
1 st DAY:
Morning:
-
Departure at 8 am. Passengers
will be collected from hotel.
-
Travel
time: 4 hours. The bus journey takes us up
to an altitude of 4100 m, we then descend to 2100 m,
the altitude of the start of the Apurimac River
Expedition.
Lunch:
Afternoon:

Safety briefing followed by
practice in the river. Only once the passengers have
a good working knowledge of the commands and of
safety, will we begin to run class II, III and IV
rapids. We arrive at our first campsite at
16h00/17h00.

Organize campsite.

Dinner will be ready between
19h00/19h30.

Briefing after dinner for the
following day.
2 nd DAY:
Morning:
-
Wake up at 7 am. Breakfast 07h30.

Enter the river at 09h30/10h00.
-
After a couple of class III
rapids, we finally arrive at our first class IV
rapid (Chute). Thereafter, we have two portages
(class VI rapids, non-runnable, hence the need to
walk around them). Following that, we enter the
Minefield and Purgatory rapids, class III and IV.

Afternoon:

We then arrive at the last
portage of the day, the Purgatory Portage. After
this, we enter the Three Marias 1 rapid. We arrive
at our campsite at 16h00/17h00.

Dinner will be ready between
19h00/19h30.

Briefing after dinner for the
following day.
3 rd DAY:
Morning:
-
Wake up at 7 am. Breakfast 07h30.

10h00/10h30: Start running the
river. We'll continue running the Three Marias 2,
the (beginning of the season; class V), and rapids
(all class IV and IV+).
Lunch:
Afternoon:
-
In the afternoon we have three
class IV rapids and two large portages. We'll arrive
to the campsite at 16h00/17h00.

Organize campsite.

Time to relax.

Dinner will be ready between
19h00/19h30.

Briefing after dinner for the
following day.
4 th DAY:
Morning:
-
Wake up at 7 am. Breakfast 07h30.
-
10h00/10h30: start running the
river. We'll have a class V rapid to run (Babalua)
and then a class IV rapid (Last laugh!).

After this, a series of class
III, III+ still to run.
Lunch:
-
Barbecue: 13h00/14h00, at the
Conoc Bridge. END OF TRIP.

Travel time back to Cusco: 2-3
hours.

Arrival Cusco: 17h00/18h00.
ENVIRONMENT
Garbage disposal: all inorganic matter is returned
to Cusco, including all human waste (transported by
means of cargo boat), Fauna: River otter, fox, deer,
condor, variety of birds and if you're really lucky:
Puma!
Climate: Warm and arid. Can get a little chilly in
the evenings.

SAFETY
There will always be a Safety kayak and
Cargo boat accompanying groups. All the
rafting guides who work with us are
certified by the Swiftwater rescue and IRIA
(special courses only for Rafting Guides).
WHAT TO BRING:

Sleeping bag (may rent for $2.50
per day).

Inflatable mattress (may rent for
$2.50 per day).

Torch/ flashlight.

Clothing:
lightweight long trousers (for evening), shorts
(obligatory in order to wear over wet-suit),
fleece/thermal top, T-shirts, bathing suit, sandals.

Personal
items: eco-friendly toiletries i.e.
bio-degradable (no place to wash except in the
river, no pollutants please!!).

Sun-block.

Insect repellent.
